Hey could anybody help me out with some decent DJ Software to mix songs .ect. And maybe some Tutorial Sites as im the biggest noob in the world but would really like to get into Dj'ing. Thnx :)

i use traktor dj studio 3 - once you've figured it out you can pull off some decent mixes :)

although it makes beatmatching etc much easier (well, you odnt have to do it) it wont turn you into a world class DJ overnight, you it takes a lot of practice (heck ive been using it for about 4 months now and i'm stil not that good)

the only downside is that after a while you'll be eyeing up some decks or CDJs :p

it's a lot better imo if you use an external mixer (if your soundcard is 5.1 you can do this easily) its what i use and all the actual mixing and EQing is done on the mixer

:)

edit - short 4 tune mix i done in traktor here

Hey nice mix. On this software is it possible to make remix's like blend two songs into one. like the words of one song into another .. Obviously i wouldnt be able to do this but is the possiblilty there.

yep you can create on the fly mashups and remixes if your good enough :D

its an advanced program and you can get a lot out of it if you keep at it, you could always try ableton live but you need a degree in technical shizzle to use it :o

you really need to be able to understand music theory, 4/4 time signatures etc, I could try and explain but google for "dj recess" his sites got a very good guide on beats/bars etc :)

its not the sort of thing you'll get good at overnight (tell me about it :( ) and even though cd and vinyl mixing require more skill, being competent with traktor and understanding how the music etc is structured helps a lot imo (hope so anyway ;))

If you have an acapella then yes..

I used Traktor studio 2 for about 2-3 years.. and got pretty damn good at it.

I find it easier to add commands to the keyboard.. so your keyboard acts as a mixer.. having a pitch bend up and down for either deck along with kills for high, mid and low.

Also get used to setting master bpms.. and then running your tracks to that bpm in order to beat match more efficiently and with less pitch bending.

Buy a second sound card if you can.. so u can use one card per channel.

Great stuff.. but takes practice..
I'll upload a few mixes in a sec.. :)

Of course I have.. but don't have the funds.
Its gettin harder to find decent mp3s too these days..

Its something I can spend hours doing.. and have.

Once you get into it.. you'll constantly think about it.. and hear tracks on the radio or something and you'll really listen out for the name.. and think.. that'd mix well with xx..

Its madness.. but great fun!

to create mash ups you are best off using ableton live, for mixing songs, use tracktor

I've heard stories about a certain Dj who turned up at a gig and were goin mad behind the decks.. looked like he was mixing like mad.. but was apparently running one long mix he had recorded earlier..

Hopefully the digital mixing will not destroy the dj'in industry..

That is so incredibly true. One of my more extreme examples is if my flatmate is playing loud music i have to make sure that the music i'm playing is beatmatched with his or it drives me crazy :o

ableton live is the daddio

the fact allot of my heroes and inspirations use it as part of there live sets makes me wish i could afford to buy it . :p

demos worth a look though, its a hell of a powerful piece of software.

Ableton and Traktor are the main two to use.

Virtual DJ is good for playing around with and has lots of nice skins. It's great with external controllers like Hercules DJ Console etc.

There are a few freebies out there that set up single 'cd player's' and are good for two soundcards and external mixer. These players actually can do 0.01% pitch for great seamless mixing.

forgot to say i use virtual dj the new ones quite an improvement

had a beringher controller for it earlier in the year... it was pants and i needed money so its gone to a better place now though.

I used to use Traktor before I got my decks, so now my mixes are on my Technics, or in some cases done in Ableton.

I've done 2 Ableton mixes so far, both are up on my website, and I wanted to cram 50 tracks into the space of 3 hours, so I would use Ableton to edit tracks, add effects, and generally make the mix quite interesting :)

Not for the faint hearted though, it's pretty complicated to use.

All my more recent mixes are on my website

krooton - do you reckon traktor gave you a good head start for when you got yourself a pair of decks?

I learnt the hard way, from scratch on belt driven sound lab decks, then went on to technics 1200's, have never gone near software based applications. Really want to get into Ableton now though, the potential is amazing however I will never abandon the decks/cd decks ever ! hands on approach for *** eva !!

Yep

Because you can see the waveform, it gives the music a more physical presence, and it made it easier for me to understand how it is structured and the like :)

Oddly, I mix far better on decks anyways, you cannot guarantee that mp3s are actually stable with their bpm sometimes.

Don't fall for the autobeatmatch function though, mainly because it is rather poor, and more importantly because then you wont learn how to pitch shift and match tracks up.
