Its fairly obvious I'm new here, damn post count is a bit of a giveaway, but seeing as I can't find another similar thread.

What do you play?

Where do you play?

How long you been playing....

Etc etc.

I'm a DnB DJ and have been for nearly 9 years, I also dabble in Punk and raregroove. I've played all over the country :)

Trance, prog trance, psytrance, breaks, funky house

Had a few gigs in London, and a short spell on internet radio, but I do it as a hobby for the love of the music, and the scene is too much about spamming and kissing promoter butt, which I can't be bothered with.

First started mixing (hard house) back in South Africa in 2001

Do you have any links to some HArdcore mixes?

I'm not totally certain on the rules for that stuff, the admin here seem confused on the legalities of such things. Are we even allowed to discuss it? :s

DnB DJ, liquid mainly but im keen on a bit of wobble, and old school stuff.

Been listening to the stuff for years, only recently got into the mixing of it.

Not played out out before, but have for mates and things.

Drum and bass is dead, long live drum and bass :D

Breaks, drum and bass, funky house.

These days I just do house parties because they are so much more fun to play.

It's not illegal as such as any action would purely be a civil case for the breach of copyright and could only seek associated damages for that breach. Damages can really only be sought from the distribution of the copyrighted material (i.e. proceeds from sales of the music) but OcUK has a vested business interest and would probably stand accused of using the copyrighted material to attract customers to their business.

Is that likely to happen? Would any of the artists or labels involved try? Hardly likely. But you can understand Overclockers reluctance to even risk it.

Copyright for mixes is a bit of a grey area. On the one hand it's a complete breach of copyright. On the other hand it's long been the best way for artists to get their music heard. Either way I can't see it ever happening on here.

Hmmm fair enough, but then I have permission from every person that sends me music to with it as i wish, by proxy they agree to the use of their music in mixes.

No gonna push it, just seems silly to me.

On with the show....where are all the DJ's at?

trance :D

been doing it for about 9 months, but only got cdjs in january and been going from there :)

mess about with a bit of production in ableton but nothing worth sharing yet :(

House, Funky house, Trance (Goa and Tribal mainly), Progressive and some breaks. Been doing it for around 7 years now although mainly involved in production now which seems to be going very nicely indeed!

Trance - mainly classic stuff

Started @ 16/17 (8/9 years)

Played - for mates do's, parties and at car shows with work.

How do you go about DJing stuff which doesn't have regular bass drum patterns? Been listening to breaks sets and how they come up with mixes I have no idea.

Breaks still follows the same formula as 4/4 stuff, it's just that the kicks aren't equal times apart.

I mix on the percussion with breaks.

Guess it just takes practice then. Some of the Fabric CDs though are just genre defying, there's so much different stuff and DJs switch between it with ease, Jacques le Cont particularly.

if you think the jaques le cont fabric cds genre defying then check out the diplo one , must include every genre mixed together perfectly

any of erol alkans dj sets always blow me away for the similar reasons

Just got into dj'ing again after i tried and failed many years ago was i was about 14.

I mainly mix house. Dirty/electro/deep/soulful stuff so a bit of a mix.

Only been doing it for a couple of months. Played a few house parties so far, should be doing another one on Saturday hopefully. I know a few dj's at club so hopefully they might be able to get my foot in the door with a few short sets soon.
