DLSS 5 preview

It's like midjourneys imagine (image gen) turned up a bit, so I'm sure they can tone down the amount it alters facial details etc.
Then it seems like a very foolish decision to have all the examples in their grand reveal of the technology applying an Instagram filter to every single character model shown, because it's just going to set a large number of people against the technology from day zero. It's going down like a lead balloon even in the comments section of Digital Foundry's video, let alone places like Reddit where AI is despised anyway.

Yeah and I think they did that to show the difference is more extreme for marketing purposes, probably not expecting the backlash... it is what it is.

Some of the improvements to lighting and environments are nothing short of spectacular.

Not sure how I feel about the characters though. Very "AI slop" at the moment...

I think the overall improvement to the lighting is very impressive….but the way it’s turned that RE character into that weird-ass generic pretty woman AI face is all kinds of bad. The other characters from starfield the effect is better.

Will have a play with it when the SDK is out anyway, see if it can make my spaceships pretty

In reality nVidia will continue to dominate the market share. Their tech demos have pretty much always laid it on thick and outside of the screeching on Reddit etc, it’ll be forgotten about within a few weeks and folk will be lapping it up on release saying how much better than the current model is.

I love it, love seeing all the people on that YT section complaining about it. As if people haven't been modding games with things like ReShade for years anyway, now it's an easy toggle.

At least we're already getting some good memes out of it.

I’m sorry but is this AI slop for real? It looks like someone just turned the contrast up. Loving the comments on the video “DF blink twice if Nvidia are holding your children hostage”.

I sincerely hope it offers much more than an on off reshade in the drivers.

Exactly what I thought. The characters turned into generic AI gen characters but everything else looks great.

Animations will have to be very good for the trick to look good, if the character looks real but iffy animations or limited animation sequences it will look very odd. Especially timing between switching animations to look fluid for this new look.

Also it will probably scare the crap out of you if games have bugs, like pop out eyes, or teeth showing through lips or what not, i think garys mod used to do some weird stuff with faces back in the day didnt it with valve stuff.

I wonder if gta games will have this tech, wonder what gta 4 and 5 would be like with it, or rdr2.

They can alter lots of things. Including not using it for faces at all.

Assassins Creed environmental changes were insane

A lot of them it looks like a heavy sharpening filter has been applied, for a lot of the textures at least. Environments and stuff look good though as you said.

I was thinking the same. The AI needs to add a believable animation on the fly or for a while it will be weird if the game devs don't do it either. But, since I've first saw this face demo (I think it was back when Mega Geometry was first demoed), it improved a lot. I'd say the hw requirements will be more of an issue.

DF clip shows filming another screen, artifacts and visual glitches are to be expected.

I'm more interested in the environment enhancements, They look amazing.

lol two RTX 5090's required to run DLSS 5

Apparently they have it in their lab running just as well on a single 5090, For the showcase though they wanted to avoid any potential hiccups, Being live and all, Hence running the model on a dedicated GPU.
