DnB thread!

Andy C smashed it at UKF Bass Culture Live last night, wish I was going to the D&B Awards tonight to see it all over again. Closed his set with TC - Tap Ho which is easily my song of right now.

Awards was absolutely amazing, best rave I've ever been to. Andy C was just... wow. Always is tho tbh. Needless to say he won best DJ (for like the 4th year in a row).

nope, it's just really distorted :p (putting this through my studio monitors).

there's also a severe lack of bass, there isn't really a drop (it's almost the same level throughout, if anything it gets quieter when the drums kick in (you can even see that on the waveform on SC). i'd say the synth noise you've made sounds alright, but it defo needs to sound less like it's going through a bit crusher.

this is one i'm currently working on, really need to sort out the kick, and shuffle a few bits around, but generally happy with it. not saying mine is better in any way, shape or form, but it's more for reference really.

techniques i'm using in terms of production in this tune are:

parallel compression/eq on the drums (using New York compression)

parallel instances of Massive for the b-line sent to a common bus which is sent to a unified bus with limiter, saturation, quite heavy compression, then parallel compressed)

groups of synths sent to a post bus (1 per 3 or 4 synths generally) for delay and/or reverb

drums have their own reverb bus

master out compressed using a valve emulator, tiny bit of balancing eq and a limiter

what software do you use? (synths, sequencer etc) if you want any tips etc feel free to ask :)

Yeah I know what you mean on the bass, I worked on it with a mate and that's the sound he wanted. As for the synth, I was going for a digital distortion style thing, which leads me on to the software I use: Reason. It doesn't have a separate bitcrusher, just a sound distortion unit with a digital setting :)

reason is epic, in fact it got me into music production :D

it's got a crap audio engine though, so i'd recommend rewiring it into logic/cubase or something else to get the most out of it.

also, you probably already know this but worth mentioning; if something is not pushing through enough, don't turn it up, turn everything else down :) it'll make stuff sit better, and give all the sounds room to breath

Can't afford another program at the moment :(

But yeah, I usually eq stuff so that there is a hole for everything to sit in, I'll have a crack if I can find the track file.

pretty good tune, even better video ;)
