DNS Benchmark - GRC (speed up your web browsing)

One nasty blog post created by a hater. Great.

First result:
Steve Gibson isn't just anyone. He wrote Shields Up, and is an awfully smart guy

Even your own post in this thread is #4 in the Google result.

I got suggested Name Bench from life hacker "Link"

Funny how when I run that it recommends google DNS. When I run GRC it says my internal DNS is the quickest and then virgin media's.

Primary DNS for me = internal
Secondary DNS = Virgin Media

The google dns doesn't even come in the top 10 on GRC and thats just using my dns and the default ones + googles.

All I would add is that I was "around" at the time when Steve Gibson was most active. I'm assuming you're a late comer; because even back then 90% of the 'net was seeing right through all his hyperbolic FUD. This was around the 1999 to 2004 time frame. He seems to have cooled off and almost become inactive since then. Ask anyone that is well versed in network security and they'll have similar opinions as me on this fellow.

Of course he has supporters. But in the same way that Scientology has its supporters.

I don't really feel the need to explain further into it.

hmm not sure if I should have used grc now.... have i got it setup right though?

I remember Shields Up being the "big thing" and then he went off the rails a bit. His analysis of a WMF vulnerability was wide of the mark.

Of course, it makes total sense to compare Steve to a cult. Unlike a cult, he doesn't ask for total dedication and money. He co-hosts an informative podcast and gives a way a ton of useful freeware.
