DNS issues?

Hi guys

I've had a search around and found a few threads but haven't found a solution.

I'm having difficulty with itunes as it keeps 'timing out' when trying to set up the genius bar. Also facebook for some strange reason will not load on my laptop or on my iPhone. 'Connection interupted'.

I've restarted my laptop, router, rebooted my router and tried ipconfig /flushdns but this 'requires elevation' apparently?!

Is it a problem at my end or at my ISPs?

Im with Tesco :p

Just tried opendns but doesn't seem to have worked.

I'm not very technical but a friend suggested I command: ping facebook.com and it just timed out. Where as google.co.uk worked with an average of 80ms.

Are you using Vista or Windows 7?
If so, commands like that require Administrator privileges, so you'll need to run a Command Prompt as Administrator to achieve that.
Hope that makes sense?

P.S. I use OpenDNS on a permanent basis, just as it seems to be more reliable that Be*'s own DNS.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I tried changing to opendns servers in the connection settings but that didn't seem to work.

Thanks for the info about Virgin Media supplying Tesco.

Anybody else having issues too?

I guess you will be the sole user so probably administrator of your machine, to launch command prompt with admin priviledges find the start icon for it and right cick it and choose run as administrator (if you can't find the icon type command in the search bar of your Vista program menu)
All said restarting your machine will have the same results as running ipconfig /flushdns as this only clears local DNS and it sounds like more of a network issue with name resolution
