Hi all,

Have just been passed on a task to migrate some domains of a company we've purchased into our FastHosts account.

All is good, the domains are now owned/controlled by FastHosts.

However - their DNS settings and Control Panel absolutely suck.

I cannot configure the correct MX record, it only allows me to point to an IP address, then it prepends "mailserver." to the domain name, which isn't how it was previously configured!

We have 5 domains, which should all point to the same mail server for the MX records, and to the same site as the A record for "www"

I've seen ZoneEdit, are they any good, or is there another (better) alternative?

It's a shame I didn't have full control over where these domains & hosting could have been transferred to, else I'd probably have transferred them to someone like Vidahost or TSOhost (I'd also then be able to use .htaccess, whereas I can't with FastHosts!!)

use someone else DNS servers - if you have a TSO account point them at ns1.tsohost.co.uk and set them up there.

can't believe you have had to use fasthosts. biggest pile of poo ever. same as 1and1 and any other sister company of them.

I wouldn't recommend zoneedit for a business site. Our DNS fell off the face of the earth for a day earlier in the year and there's no way to get any kind of support from them.

They are also about to redo their service completely, which I suspect will make it less attractive pricewise and suck more.

Hi all,

Hehe :)

They do actually let you use htaccess files, but you need to pay £20.

Fasthosts absolutely suck for even simple things like domain management. Hope you never have to use their support line (which is offshore)
