I'm just wondering since I've just ordered a 64 bit cpu . I was wondering if people always use 64 bit windows rather than the old 32 bit?
Presumably the 64 bit version is faster?

I think you'll find the opposite is true, most people with 64bit processors will still be using XB 32bit.

I don't think there's a huge amount to gain from moving to XP x64, and there weren't really enough drivers around initially, though I believe this is less of an issue now :)

Could make a poll of this.

Minstadave reckon you could get a don to set one up in the windows section if someone makes a thread?

Someone that knows what they're doing make a thread :p

I wanna see the results that's all :p

I reckon the options should be like

64bit AMD running 32bit
64bit AMD running 64bit

64bit Intel running 32bit
64bit Intel running 64bit

or something to that effect, maybe an "other" option where they state what the "other" actually is.

I could do that, if you give me some options to put in it.

Possibly:

I use 32bit and don't want to change
I use 64bit
I will use 64bit when I next upgrade/when Vista is released
I would use 64bit if there were better application/driver compatibility

How about a multiple option ;)
Got Windows (32 bit), Mandriva Linux (64 bit) plus the tinkering drive (Vista ATM, also play with OpenDarwin & BSD) booting on this machine.

from what you guys are saying, it seems that most people here would be using 32bit. I guess that means that there aren't that many advantages to change until Vista come out.

I might stick with 32bit XP but upgrade my Linux distro to 64 bit.

Really should be the option: x64 CPU with x64 windows and mildly unhappy, because that's me! My PC runs like a dream but the driver issues send me bonkers (mainly cheap/old peripherals). When I go on to Vista Ultimate x64 the drivers should all come out, fingers crossed, and the issues will be minimal.

Generally if you've got higher that 1gb of RAM they say get x64. Don't bother becuase you can just wait for Vista. This is my opinion.

I use XP 64bit and it works great. Nice and nippy, hl2 runs smoooooth and since I do a lot of dev work on hl2 it makes it that much nicer. Office 2007 is pretty cool too. Haven't had any problems with drivers.

I'm using XP 64, and the only thing that bugs me is i can't find a decent replacement for Nero, Acronis or Musicmatch Jukebox, apart from that everything else works like a dream.

I'm using xp x86 and vista x64 on my opteron 146. Apart from when I need to run certain games I'm spending most of the time in vista and have had no problems.
