Do all mk1 MX5's come with a diff?

you very rarely get uk mk1s ones with an lsd. I think the only mk1s that did were the s-specials from Japan.

There were some special editions in the UK with the LSD IIRC, but as a rule only the jap import Eunos ones have it as standard... one of the many reasons the import mk1s are a much better buy imo.

I could be very much wrong (if so, meh), but I recall the new Ford Mustang has a live rear axle.

Yes, but it does have a diff. Live axle just refers to the rear suspension design AFAIK, which in the case of a live rear car means leaf springs.

In which case my apologies, I'll shut up now :).

Yes the mustang does, part of the reason why i despise it so much. But the fact a car has a live real axel does not mean that it does not have a diff. A live real axel simply means that the drive shafts and differential are held in one solid casing. so the rear wheels are connected which is bad because when one wheel moves (hits a pothole or a lump or something) then it forces the other wheel to move aswell.

With IRS (independant rear suspension) the diff is fixed in place, and the driveshifts are free to move independantly of each other.
