So I was fairly set on picking up a PU chair from either of the attached suppliers but came across this thread below

https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...ir%85-do-not-winter-will-come-5686050-21.html

Some of these pictures are pretty alarming with PU flaking after a few years. I really don't want to spend 300 quid on a "premium" chair for it to look terrible after a few years.

I'm now beginning to think that the secret lab fabric chair might be the best option?

Any thoughts

pretty much. Leather (good leather) is hot, PU is hot and peels and fabric is harder to clean. Pick your poison, really, but i'd choose a fabric chair every time over PU.

I would be very unhappy if my chair looked like that after 3 years.

All PU will crack/peel eventually yes, it obviously depends on its environment but you'd expect it to be ok for about 5yrs imho

Real leather of quality will last much longer IF cared for.

Fabric wears too and is more susceptible to moisture damage/staining, however (depending on the chair) is easier to refurbish.

Have had a ikea markus chair for over 10 years i think now, was bought late 2008 and still in good condition. The headrest has peeled ever so slightly hut the rest is in good condition for 10 year old chair. Certainly nothing like the chair in the pic above.

Most of my gaming chairs peel or otherwise degrade (i.e. cracking) surface wise after a couple of years :( especially if cleaned with any kind of liquid.

Mine did the same. It makes sense as the base is mainly covered in real leather with PU for the headrest.

Jeez, looks like it was cleaned with bleach....

I've been sitting in a noblechair at home and at work. Work one for 3 years, home one for 2 years. No sign of peeling or any issues at the moment. - In-fact they look as good as new, but then again noblechairs do use thicker and better quality materials than most other gaming chair brands.

Had my PU Nobelchair for a couple of years, with no sign of wear at all and it gets a lot of use. I find it more comfortable than my work Herman Miller chair, which is more expensive.

My AK Racing Premium chair began to fall apart almost overnight. Went from being perfectly fine too almost dissolving. Very disappointed, lasted around 3 1/2 years. Will avoid PU / AKRacing in future.

Exactly what's happening to mine. Made even worse I bought it with bitcoin a year before it soared, over 0.5 btc, will be buying fabric next time
