Do chavs stop you modding?

Everyday around here you see some kind of awfully modded car, slammed painted drums and 40" chrome wheels, these usually have some kind of boy racer or chavy looking person in them.

Now in a few month I will (hopefully) be getting a car that deserves the ice wheels and an exhaust, however I am finding myself shying away from this for the fear of being associated with these people. Now usually I do not care what others think however it could be awkward at gettogethers or god forbid) work related things when first impressions count. To me it is a shame that these Muppet's give tuners and proper modders a bad name.

So OCUK do chavs and their image put you of modding your car?

Not really because they generally have very poor taste. Im more in to minor mods that have a OEM + look about them.

All depends on the car really, if the car can get away with big wheels and a silly exhuast then thats a different thing from seeing them on a 1.1 punto.

Generally as long as it's subtle you're alright. Most chavs go for an 8ft high spoiler on the back of a 306 with a body kit that's lower than the tyres the car's attached to and don't get me started on the exhaust noise....

So as long as you don't go ott you'll be alright and it'll probably look pretty good.

Also they do as follows;

Outside fyberrglasss innit
Blingin rimzzz
Dump valves to increase *** powah
big zorst for powah!!oneoneetc.

Personally I will put some better wheels on a car, but not outlandish ones. Like I'm getting a 205 off my brother soon, so may stick some 1.6 or 1.9 alloys on it as they make it look and handle better, but aren't wrong for the car (well not completely).
I don't do much else to my cars, simply because they aren't worth enough to start off with and they aren't the sort to actually gain any performance from modding them.

If I was to have the money I'd happily modify a decent car, but I'd do engine running gear etc. then if the power increase demanded that the outside needed doing then I'd do that too, but tastfully and funcionally.

There's many items you can stick on your car without resorting to the home of chav parts (Halfords).
Its the ones that blatantly look like they dont belong on the vehicle that I would steer clear of personally.

I think it depends on the car and the mods imo, ive seen plenty of crappy chavmobiles and seen some nicely modded cars of the same model and dont think scum at all.

Well the mods suit the type of car, although if I mentioned them they would sound chavy, spoiler and exhaust. :o

What's the car?

I mean sticking a spoiler on a metro is thick, sticking it on say an astra, meh acceptable. As for the exhaust, you come to these forums, so it must be a sensible one that does something (even if it's just make a cool noise). :p Again, it's car dependant, sticking one on a metro is stupid, a bigger more powerful car, like a scooby, it's ok.

yea but classy spoilers looks smart not ones that look like they were stolen from an F1 though, and likewise with exhaust lol aslong as it dont look like a tin bin taped to the bumper, but what i hate most about bad modding and chavmobiles is damn noisy exhaust that sound like are doing 100+ when there doing less then 15mph, really annoys me lol,

Picture evidence is required.

Notice the gt4 WRC wing, mud flaps, subtle badges, exhaust etc.

Sound chavvy suit the car imo.

PS dont like the wheels.

Spoiler OTT lol, exhaust could do with abit more stealthing though, just sticks out and looks bad imo

The spoiler was an option as new on the car, so its not a cheap halfrauds special, but yes it is an acquired taste.

I like, spoiler is a bit strange, but it's a decent car. As far as I'm concernd the chavs wear burbry, kevs/neds drive <1.5l 'things' coverd in fibreglass and plastic.

So no, not chavvy (or kevv/neddy).

Cool, I just do not want to be linked with kevs. :o

Sad thing is most everyday non-car people will hold that Celica in the same regard as they would a Corsa with a big wing and a loud exhuast.

They'll know nothing about the car, so will have nothing they can use to differentiate it from the Saxo that passed them with a huge exhuast seconds earlier.

That is it, the main problem I will have. I will just have to accept that tbh. it just annoys me that chavs have ruined it for decent people. :(
