Do console owners get a raw deal?

I don't feel ripped off buy having to buy DLC as I'll only pay for it if I need it, like the CoD4 maps. The halo 3 maps I waited for, until they were free.

Its when they start releasing games with just a handful of maps, then charge extra for add ons that things start to get dodgy.

Why not just give a decent amount of maps in the first place? What about user generated maps?

i wish the content was free after a certian amount of time, may be a year or 1 and a half years, that way no one can complainling, simlar to halo when the levels are free after a bit

Call of Duty 4 came with a lot of absolutely brilliant multi-player maps, so your point in the case of CoD4 is moot. It's an optional upgrade for those who love the game and want to buy additional maps, you don't have to if you don't want to.

Yeah dlc is starting to get silly, on the new 1upshow they said the next battlefield game you will need to pay to unlock some of the guns. I don't like the trend that's starting to happen.

That is very worrying, its one thing to charge people for map packs (something i don’t like) it an entirely different thing to give better weapons to people just because they are willing to pay for them. :(

dlc is coming to pc with bf heroes this summer

At least the game is free.

As for the COD4 map pack I think with 8 million plus copies sold they could afford to give the map pack away for free as a way of thanking people for buying the game.

Semi OT: Never knew that game had sold that many copies!! That is seriously impressive!!

I am assuming PC and PS3 owners have to pay for the maps as well, so not really a rip off as long as everyone is paying if they want. Would be a ripoff if the content was free on PC, but I don;t think anyone here has mentioned an example where the same content is chargeable on consoles and free on PC (in which case you could concede that maybe console owners do get a raw deal).
