Do dogs remember doing bad things?

Late answer

I told her off that day when I got in and saw the mess, so she could have done it 8 hours earlier and knew what she'd done.
Like I said earlier, we'd get in and she would be looking down at the floor while lifting one eye up knowing she was going to get a telling off for something new she'd done.

And we blame ourselves for all the things that happened, it was back in the early 80s and shouldn't have left a dog alone all day so never had another one.

You must always remember with dogs, they train you, you do not train them.

You think you are training them, but it is all a clever deception and ruse on their behalf.

I can often tell when our dogs have done something naughty by the way they act...

Some times I open the front door can see something is bothering the dog so have to walk round the house to find what they have done

There have been times when I know they are thinking about doing something they know they will get yelled at for and they change their behavior... New pup happily rolls in crap in front of me... After a few yelling she will drop back or run ahead then quickly roll in the crap, jump up and run off
