Do the rubber drive dampers you can get to mount a 3.5" drive in a 5.25" bay actually make much difference?
I'm thinking of the Akasa dampeners OcUK sells or the Scythe version I've seen elsewhere. I'm running a Raptor-X and a pair of Atlas 15K SCSI drives so the dampeners that completely enclose the drive aren't an option.
I'm not looking for silence, just a noticeable noise reduction. The drives are currently hard mounted into 5.25" bays in an Antec 4U rackmount case.
I don't want to spend £20+ and find out that there's no appreciable difference.

) another Raptor but I had the 15K drives spare and they seemed to be a good place to put my virtual machines.
