I have an Antec 900 with the full compliment of 120mm fans (4) taking in air and the 200mm and one 120mm extracting it and i have to clean the inside of my case for dust every 2 or 3 weeks and i saw the dust filters on OcUK and was wondering if anyone else had used them and whether they helped and how they affect the cooling ability of the fans

Thanks, Hawky

Fan filters increase fan noise levels, and getting a fan filter out of antec 900 is more hassle than blowing the pc out every couple of weeks.

I used to have some on my rig but they are harder to clean than a fan itself, and seriously hinder fan efficiency.

Fan filters do work, just got to get the right one,i had 6 of these for my 2 120.3 rads.

Had to buy them in the US.

I use fan filters on my UFO. Work a treat and clean off easily with a 1" paintbrush. If you get some decent ones they wont impede airflow too much either.

ive read somewhere that if you get negative pressure inside your case, ie more fans extracting air, than inputting air it will cause less dust to collect in your case, dunno if this is true or not though :/

the above would make sense I guess...

ps the p182 is fitted with fan filters and believe me it collects a lot of dust so they defo work :)

Unless your case is sealed airtight you aint gonna get any pressure difference. Dust will still get in your case thru the intake fans but as there are less fans intaking there will be less of it ;).

stick the pc under a desk or paint in the window and the dust problem goes away - just clean the heatsinks whenever temps get to high ;)
on a side note, i have mostly fans extracting - not much dust settles in the case, imho. but it depends on your own deffiniton of "much" - my soundcard clearly holds a fingerprint. but it been in the case uncleaned for about 6 years

Ok thanks guys, i think ill turn one of my 120mm fans around then ill have more air coming out than going in :)

Hawky

As pointed out above unless the case is completely air tight it'll just mean that it'll draw air in through all the air gaps i.e. the gaps between CD/DVD drives, power button etc so you may end up with more dust lines outside the case. I've always found it personally better to have the in and out pressures the same so that the main point of air coming in is through the fan holes.

On the subject of fan filters you can actually use ladies stockings and they are damn efficient, just avoid the gusset area :D

I had to de-dust my antec 900 case out the other day too, that case sucks in dust like a hoover! had a ***** load of dust at the end of it...
