Do game trainers make some games more fun?

Use custom trainers when I want.

Sometimes games are broken with bad pathing and crappy farming issues.

I dont want to spend hours trying to make a crappy jump or farm 100 useless things and a trainer make it easier.

If its a fun and happening experience then I don't even bother with them.

Solo played games your not hurting anyone.

kthula666, could you do me a huge favour and download the trainer for Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon? I can't find one for the Steam version of the game that actually works. Or do cheathappen trainers require a login with DRM?

Only ever really used them when playing GTA games - either to replay without having to redo some of the grind or to skip past aspects of the game that just detract from the overall gameplay flow for me i.e. fiddly "mini-games" that for some reason are part of the main story arc and add nothing to the game.

Only time I'd use them really would be instances like Far Cry 2 where several aspects massively detracted from what was overall a reasonable game i.e. comically over the top weapon degredation.

Cheats do make the game more fun but also ruin it in the process. When I first played DOOM I only played it with cheats (being a stupid kid back then) and looking back I think it ruined the immersion since I didn't have to worry about dieing. It's just something you won't get back. It will give you a short burst of enjoyment that soon wears off because of the absence of challenge. It's fine if you've already completed the game and wouldn't play it again under normal circumstances but I would never think of doing it with a new game I've never played, it's pointless. Running around with an unlimited ammo RPG blowing up is fun but only for a short while.

I've never used them as such, but my thoughts are that if you've paid your money for the game, if using a trainer makes it more fun for you, then go for it. At the end of the day, we all play games for fun, and while we all like a challenge from time to time, I know sometimes I just want to have a bit of fun.

I do agree you can ruin a great game by removing the challenge, I tend to use trainers and cheats after i have completed the games as to not ruin them but after i find they can be great to change the way a game works.

Using the program cheat-engine for example can be real fun on old dos games and changing things around making things how you want them, once you have the memory address you could use it to add Regen health so to change the dynamic of the game although i am not so hot using lua scripting to do that.
There are quite a few tutorials to explain the more complex things you can do with cheat-engine on there forum.

I found it quite useful on that old scrolling shooter Tyrian than i must have completed 100 times since i got it, but with cheat-engine i can change what side kicks i can have as some only fit on the left or right pod so i can have two front mounted 8way lasers or something or give myself a different ship easily just by finding the memory address and changing it.

I think a lot of it depends on how you use the cheats, if you use cheats to get through a game quickly you can take the fun out of it, but a few changes to the game can greatly add fun and to re-playability same with modding games really.

The most recent ones i used them for was Arkham Aslyum and Deus Ex Human Revolution as i was getting hammered in the boss fights and in danger of giving up on the game, so for me used carefully they can be a useful tool

No shame in admitting your skills are too poor to handle the game you have paid for

On-line against other people is massively ghey tho
