First port of call is the wired route. But if that fails I imagine these gaming Routers are just a gimmick, best to go with a reputable brand such as Belkin?
My brothers both play PC games on the same 2mb connection along with a 3rd on a wireless laptop fine. No problems at all! As long as you have a decent enough router then dont go shelling out for anything else unless you see that its the routers problem.
A couple of people playing games at the same time won't be an issue (unless you have a very limited upstream e.g. under 256kbit) as they use very little bandwidth. The problems come when people are saturating the bandwidth e.g. file transfer.
Even something as simple as web browsing could cause gamers on the same connection to lag (albeit very briefly) if no QoS is applied.
All routers ping at 1ms between you and it's self, Gaming routers make no difference what so ever, ping is to do with location and how good your ISP peers with other providers, save your money just buy a decent brand.
