Yeah, unless you've got the Windows power saving options set to spin the disk down after a period of inactivity then the disk(s) will spin for however long the PC is powered on.

I think this a good thing as I read that if the hard drive was continually powering on and off then this is worse than leaving it on all the time
I do have my power setting set to power down the hard drive after 5 hours of inactivity but this has never come into effect as I have never left my PC idle for this amount of time (while switched on I mean)
