Do Hiend graphic cards use lots of electricity when not gaming?

Just wondering if the power output when say, just searching the web, uses lots more electric than say my motherboard?

Not really, especially nowadays. Google the model of the GPU in question, and "idle Watts" or "idle power usage" and you'll see someone will have ran a test. Images should show nice comparison charts. You're talking 10-15w most likely.

They all lower their clocks. My GTX1070 for example is currently sat at 139mhz core, 405mhz memory and is using just 9.5w according to GPU-z.

Not high end but 3070 FE sitting at 9.6W idle for me.

Depends a bit on settings but my 3070FE sits at about 13 watt average when (mostly) idle. I have multiple displays connected which I think keeps it at a slightly higher state than some.

(If I closed Firefox it might drop down a bit as well :s)

3090FE is sitting at about 15w idle with the complete system in the mid to high 80s.

3090FE 210Mhz Core 440 VRam 35C with Zero RPM Fan(s) mode, GPU-Z says GPU-Chip Power Draw 10-15watts.
