Do I even need an HDD?

A lot of people seem to have both an SSD and an HDD. When I order a PC I'll probably get an SSD with 100GB+ storage, which will be more than I will ever need (I have yet to use 100GB on my bloated laptop, which I'll be using as an alternate storage anyway), so is there any point in an HDD in that case?

SSD are more exsoensive and will be wasted just storing pictures video music ECT

By all right if U wanna spend the money U can

If you only need 100GB it'd be a waste getting a hard drive, just get a 120GB ssd and enjoy the speed.

I dont see the point in paying for more too get a 100 + GB Ssd just so ot can open pictures, videos, files ECT faster

Much better I think too get a 60 gb ssd for OS program files ECT

And cheap 100 + GB hdd for pictures music files ECT

BUt if its important everything opens quickly by all means get a SSD but with everything on SSD you may lose the boot up time speed advantage you get with SSD (but even than not by many seconds)

A 120GB ssd will only be an extra £20 on the cost of a 60GB. It would be silly not to get at least 120. Not to mention 60GB is pushing convenience as an OS drive.

Also a 100GB + hdd will easily be that difference and dont forget price/GB is poor on smaller hdds. And if he doesnt need all that space on the hdd it is also wasted. And by the time he might need it, he will be able to buy cheaper, more GB for his £.

Its a matter of prefernce really I personly prefer SSD.to have OS and programs only and HDD to have everything else.

I dont need myusic and pictures to open quickly and I have lots of music videos pictures and am not willing to buy 500 GB SSD for them when I can have a 1 TB HDD

but if he's only using 100 GB or less this didn't really apply

SSD can make a difference to laptops though, MUCH faster than 5400rpm laptop drives. I would much rather have a 100Gb SSD than a 500Gb slow laptop drive. Can always get an external if more space is needed. That way if you lose your laptop at least your data could be safe at home or in your pocket.

edit: Lol, not sure why I said about laptop??

On my pc, I don't regret buying an SSD at all. No more hard drive clicks and no more waiting for hard drive to spin up or seek files. Everything loads up to 5x faster for me.

I would have expected someone to at least comment on an SSD been silent and HDD been a little louder! Can make difference.

Although I don't really agree with an SSD not been classed as HDD itself.

For the last few years I have only had an SSD, first it was an 80Gb SSD which I found just slightly too little storage, then when I built my new PC I went for a 180Gb Intel 520, so far loving the speed of it for every day usage, so I say buying just an SSD is fine if you're requirements don't need terabytes of storage
