Do I give Apple a try?

I will be going down the apple route soon. Waiting on the 14.

Last iphone I used was iphone 5. Used that for 2 years. Iphone before that was iphone 4.

Its been a while. But its time to go back to apple. Only thing that was putting me of on iPhone 13 was the notch. Hopefully on the 14 it's not had bad as it's rumoured to be.

Don't really care about the lightning cable charger. As for cloud storage I use Google one 100gb. Easy to use? Or better of switching to icloud?

Phone contract is coming to an end and this time I'm thinking of trying Apple.

So had a look at a comparison site and I dont understand why the Apples 13 Pro Max is considered much much better than my Samsung S10 Lite.

Both have same size screen, mine has more RAM and the camera is great too. Performance is brilliant with no slow down or glitches.

What am I missing?

The A15 chip in the 13 is extremely powerful, so if you play games you’ll appreciate that power. The video capabilities of the 13 pro max are outstanding, best in class. The build quality and materials are top tier, but the max is heavy. The cameras while not spec beasts are very capable and you shouldn’t find them lacking.

Saying that we are over half way through the life cycle of the 13, with the 14 coming in September. You should be able to find a good deal on the 13, have a look at some pristine used examples.

Depends on your overall ecosystem commitment really. iCloud is very good when you have multiple Apple devices and you use many of the built in apps.

It’s not about raw CPU power, it’s the ecosystem. The more you are in it, the more it makes sense, especially when you have a Mac as well. Things like messages, photos, calls, FaceTime all syncs. Things like if you are looking at a website on the phone and want to look at it on the Mac. Just have the page open on the phone, go to the computer and an icon on the taskbar pops up where if you click on it, same page pops up.

The iPhone is a decent phone, but I wouldn’t say it’s the all and be all for phone purchases. Especially if you are jumping into the more expensive end of the phone market. I would get something cheaper, they all work the same. The biggest difference is mostly the camera really once you get above the SE.

iOS. That's what makes the iPhone.

If you're happy to live with Android, save yourself the money and buy an Android phone. If you're not happy to live with Android, the iPhone is your only choice.

And this is the conclusion I've come up with. An iPhones 13 contract woukd cost me £2000 over two years, where as I coukd stick with this phone and get a sim only deal.

Ssung said they will support my device with software upgrades until 2024 so maybe I'll revisit this then.

Thank you all for you advice.

Yup I’m a fan of the iPhone payment plan. 0% interest on the Max is £43.70 per month direct. I run a £8 per month sim only contract. So that would be £1,240.80 over 2 years.

Was chatting to my friend and he has an old iPhone 11 with some scratches on the glass, the phone itself works fine. So I'm gonna trial run that for a week or so and see how it fairs :) What surprised me was that even though its 3 years old it can still be upgraded to the latest OS

Hi, the iPhone 11 can’t run iOS 15? You sure about that? I’ve got an iPhone 8 and an iPhone 7 upgraded without issue. I think it may be an issue with that phone specifically, rather than not being compatible more generally. Usually get about 6/7 years of iOS updates.

The iPhone 6s from 2015 can run the latest iOS and my daughter still used hers until a few months ago. It ran perfectly fine but the battery had pretty much had it. If you're an Android user and surprised a three year old phone can run the latest iOS then it doesn't say much for Android devices :D

I've got used to google ecosystem. Can always move over. In terms of other apple devices, no other devices. I'll make my mind up when the time comes.

iOS and Android are so very similar nowadays tbh the real question you might want to ask is probably do you want to change your ecosystem to something new? For me I'd just not want to lose my history with either if it will help build a history reference in future for things like better search/experience.

I said it can :)

My bad, apologies, mid-read. Well there you are then another reason to come over to the right side ;).

I’ve been on iPhone/Apple for over 10 years not because I have a particular dislike for anything else but at the time it was more user friendly and now it does what I need with minimum fuss. I’m sure android is very similar if not better in some areas now but I see no reason to change. As others have said it is committing to the ecosystem that gives the biggest benefit. I have Mac, iPad, iPhone Apple TV associated peripherals (AirPods etc.), and services such as iCloud. They work well together especially when sharing with family/friends. Apple deliberately only seem to make their products/services play nicely together so having an iPhone and integrating with Windows/Linux becomes a pain.

Good luck.
