Workstations commonly come with dual socket arrangements. Apple Mac Pro for example can be purchased two hexacore processors.

I went on there and selected every available option and totalled up to over £15,400!!!!!!!!!

that was with 2 2.93GHz Xeons, 32GB DDR3, 2x5870s, 2x27" screens, a 512gb ssd and 3x2TB hdds... plus all the software etc...

but still... I'd never spend that money on a computer :-/ just insane

it's 1 chip 4 cores with 2 threads per core (virtual cores) there for 8 threads

but 4 cores.

Aye, they can - its usually just reserved to the very top-end and server markets.

EVGA even have the SR2 board which is marketed at enthusiasts - but for a fully configured system may require a second mortgage.
