Hi guys, building my first budget friendly computer for my girlfriend at the moment. Hardware went together great and it was really easy. Just now I'm having some problems.

The Build

CPU - AMD Bulldozer FX-6 Six Core 6300
Motherboard - Asrock 970 Extreme3 R2.0
8GB 1600MHz Dual Channel DDR3 RAM
Graphics - GTX660
HDD - Seagate Barracuda 2TB (ST2000DM001)
DVD/CD Rewriter
Corsair 650W PSU

The Problem

Basically, the hard drive is being discovered, both in the BIOS and when I come to try and install Windows 7, but not being recognised as it should be. I've tried changing SATA cables and double checking SATA ports on the MB. In the BIOS the hard drive is found, but only has a storage space of 4.1GB. (This is when SATA Mode set to IDE). When it comes to Windows 7 Installation it is then increased to 128GB but I can't partition the space or anything. When SATA Mode is set to AHCI (which I guess it should be for a 2TB drive) it picks the drive up but tells me there's a massive capacity of 0.0GB. What the heck is going on? Am I missing something stupid?

It's really strange that the drive is being recognised in both the BIOS and when it comes to a Windows install. Has anyone else run into these kind of problems? I can't find very much on the webs about it either.

I've also posted a thread on Reddit and I'm going to sling the HD in my machine later on tonight and update the BIOS too.

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum, I'm new here and after having a look around I'll definitely be sticking around!

Any help or suggestions will be great! :)

Test the hard drive, probably using Seagate's own tool.

Dead on arrival hard drives aren't especially unusual. I don't think they like being thrown around in the delivery van.
