Right upgrade time. I've had iPhones since the first one, but I'm sick of getting screwed on contracts and don't have £600 spare right now for sim free, even paying £200 up fronts gets you naff data.

I've been impressed by my daughters android tablet and got me thinking do I switch to android? I'm thinking s5 or something else, help me decide please

first question... do you actually NEED to replace the phone you have, could you make do with your current phone and a sim only deal.

Second question is if you do NEED one how much are you wanting to spend etc.

As to android, as long as you go for one without too much skinning you'll have a good time, my biggest gripe with android is when manufacturers (I'm looking at samsung and htc to a point) change it so much with in most cases bloat that it actually ends up slowing the phone down.

My personal direction with Android phones at the moment would be Motorola or pure nexus phones, the nexus 5 is still a good phone for example, it's just a year old.

Less than £35 need 2gb data

My 13 year old son is getting my old iPhone 5 so I do need a new phone lol

Nexus 6 looks interesting, but huge

get your 13 year old a moto g (about £125) and keep the iPhone :p

The nexus 6 is a good phone from what I've seen although some say it's a bit overpriced for a nexus (we're used to cheap nexus prices) and rather large (iphone 6 plus size).

Maybe consider the x+1 (aka moto x 2014) as an option, pretty much the same just smaller and cheaper.

I have an iPhone 6 and if I went for anything android tomorrow it'd be the Sony Z3 compact. Also consider the new version of android is out in a month or so for it.

I have a iPhone 5 and have been trying to justify a upgrade, which has been hard as the 5 still is an excellent phone, sinking £600 £700 into a new iPhone feels hard to justify.

I thought about switching to Android too, but the budget phones won't be a upgrade from the iPhone 5 and the flagship ones are not that much more expensive than the iPhone 6. And I am heavily invested into iOS photos videos apps music all nicely backed up and easy to sync into a new iPhone.

So everytime I think about upgrading I end up deciding to keep my iPhone 5. I think if I was going to buy a Android device it would be the Note 4 or Nexus 6, leaning towards the Nexus as touchwiz puts me off and I like to get updates fast.

2 options

1) Get an iPhone directly from Apple on the 12 0%, then a cheap sim only like Three
2) Get a nice Android phone, if possible I would recommend waiting for the next batch of device that are due on March if the N6 is too big.

Samsung Galaxy S5's are currently £279 sim free in Vodafone stores, you may have to pay £20 to get it unlocked so all in for under £300.

The OnePlus One 64GB model can be had for £275 delivered, check the OPO thread for an invite.

If you're happy to spend a bit more, the best Android phones (period!) at the moment are -

Galaxy Note 4
Nexus 6
Xperia Z3

It depends what you want from the phone.

Battery life: Xperia Z3 or Z3 compact
Power house phablet size: Note 4/Note 3/Nexus 6
Normal size powerhouse: HTC One M8/S5 etc

So it depends what you want from the phone, over here at android you have much choice :D
