Do I keep old memory?

Just had my new parts delivered, (X1800XT 512/Hiper Type R 580/2x1gb GeIL).

Currently, I have 2x512mb samsung pc3200. Is it worth keeping hold of it, and putting in slots 3&4, with the geil in 1&2. Or will that actually make it worse?

2GB is plenty, filling up all 4 slots will make your RAM run at 2T instead of 1T and there is usually a noticeable performance drop with the change.

So your saying having 2GB with that config will actually be slower when compared to having 1GB? :confused:

Let me explain then..... :rolleyes:

I thought the above quote and others that i've read are trying to say that 4 x 512MB of RAM is slower than 2 x 512MB of RAM.

People seem to be making a big deal about advising against 4 x 512MB, but as long as it's better than 2 x 512MB, does it really matter?

The bigger you get, the smaller the difference though. If you give me £100 I'll test if the difference between 2gb and 3gb is bigger than the difference between 1T and 2T though
