Currently i have a November 2005 Fiesta ST which i have had for 2 and a half years. Im happy with it, hasnt caused any problems but im getting to the stage that " i fancy a change " and due to me changing jobs im doing more motorway driving than i used to which really this really aint made for (sitting at 3700-4000 RPM) needs another gear :D

I commute nearly 50 miles a day, 35 of this is sat on the motorway plodding along and the rest are through twisty country lanes.

My car aint bad on fuel consumption considering its a 2 litre. I can manage roughly 280-300 miles on 35 litre fill up. Roughly 37ish MPG.
But still im pumping near enough 35-40 quid a week in petrol !

I fancy a sporty looking 3 door diesel, focus sized car. Around the 12k mark.

The only thing that tickles my fancy is a Civic Type S. 2.2 diesel engine, 55mpg, nice interior, and not bad performance at 8.7sec to 62mph.

Also would be interested in a bmw coupe diesel but when i look at the ones i fancy which are the m sports your talking 14k for a 4 year old car with 40-60k on the clock. I wouldnt fancy the upkeep on these as i can imagine 500-1000quid service bills every year which wouldnt interest me in the slightest :)

Any suggestions guys? Do i even go for diesel for the 250-350 miles that i do a week :)

Cheers

It'll be worth it. The ST is really harsh at motorway speeds, more than an hour and you are bleeding from the ears.

Good job 35 miles doesnt take an hour at motorway speeds ;)

If you want a slightly bigger car, get a Focus ST instead?

Its not worth getting a diesel for 12k a year.

Yeah 12K a year isn't exactly extraordinary - I doubt you'd see a huge difference in running costs unless you drove some horrible diesel eco-crapbox, which would be a massive step down.

Yeah thats what im thinking guys. The depreciation of getting a Civic Type S would offset the running costs.

The sensible side of me is saying just keep it. The other side is saying bugger it and get one. :)
