Do I need a graphics card upgrade for 22/24 monitors?

Hi, I'm currently considering the following monitors: Samsungs 226BW, 226CW or Dell's 2407WFP, 2407WFP-HC

The Samsung 22 inchers max resolution at 1680x1050
The Dell 24inchers 1920 x 1200

I'll be using the monitor mainly for movies, productivity (office/net etc) and xbox 360 gaming.

I was just wondering though, if I will need an extra upgrade on the graphics card? I currently have at my disposal (All AGP): 6800GT 256mb, Ti4200, FX5200

I'm just wondering if I need to upgrade the graphics card? I won't be doing any gaming on it as the days of evening FPS sessions have lost their appeal.

I have the Dell 2407WFP and an old FX 5900 and all works well here. (Spec in sig). Not been gaming for a while, and probally need a new graphics card for that anyway.....

For general day to day use at 1900x1200 this old 5900 is fine. If I was you, I'd be running the monitor with your 6800GT as then you get _some_ choice of gaming.

Main thing is upgrading the drivers to make sure it can handle the wide screen resolution. :)

BTW - 24" WS monitors are fantastic for clarity and getting so much more done on the screen at a time. :D Best purchase I have made for my PC in years.....

All of those cards will handle 1920x1200 with ease.

However I'd be inclined to use the gf6 as it may have marginally better 2d image quality, plus be supported by more modern drivers and a bit more grunt should you ever run any 3d applications.

i have the samsung 22", it works fine with my 8500GT. just make sure the GFX card can support the resoultion or you might not have the best display for the monitor
