Do i need a new card?

Not sure what set you have, on current Panasonics there's a "Game" mode, this turns off a lot of the TV image processing. Have you tried that? Basically you want to be able to pass through the HTPC image directly to the TV without the TV doing anything to it on top.

Shame I don't know your card or TV, but wouldn't want you to go spending a load of money only to see the same results with a new card when it's the TV itself ;)
will have another go and post back tomorrow :)

I would try what chilean is saying and too add i used to use media player classic and the combined community codec pack and when i had problems i'd mess with all sorts of settings, sometimes it worked but most of the time the best solution was to reinstall mpc

Good luck, post up your TV model number and I can have a look through the options.

FWIW I've been through the same with one of my HTPCs (NVidia card) and Onkyo Receiver/Samsung TV and it does sound like the same problem.

Edit: A good test for Blu-Ray 1080p playback is The Dark Knight opening sequence, shot in Imax, so really high bit rate and as it pans across the roof tops it's quite easy to see any judder, especially if you watch the edges of the screen.

Just reinstalled cccp and mpc
no change
power dvd 12 has major judder in 3d playback, nearly unwatchable
Noticed that the 5450 card has no mention of HD3D whereas most `better` card state that they support this, could this be why 3d files are so bad?
TV is a PanasonicTX-P55ST50B have tried loads of different settings over the few weeks that I have had it,before coming to ask for help :)
Also found this on AMD hd3d section

Blu-ray 3D GPU Decode Acceleration is not supported on AMD Radeon HD 6770, HD 6750 and all ATI Radeon™ HD 5000 series graphics. For CPU requirements for Blu-ray 3D playback visit software partner websites (i.e. Cyberlink, Arcsoft) for more information.

Do you have xmbc installed? Because i beleive it has an option to set frame rate to 24fps which most mkv's are. This is probably your best shot other than a new gpu or converting files to 25/50/60 hz

xbmc is installed
just tried a 3d file, wont play.standard 1080P play ok well as good as an other player

files play back at 24 hz on other players too
don`t like the feel of xbmc to be honest.it always seems slow when i try to move the curser (got a htpc keyboard/mousepad)
Looks like it will be a new gfx card soon not yet will keep at it for a few more days/week.

So is 1080p non 3D playing back ok now?

The "Game" mode seems to switch a lot of the TV processing off, but there doesn't seem to be an option to turn it all off and just let your HTPC do the processing and your TV display it (unprocessed).

Ones I'd look to turn off would be "Intelligent Frame Creation", "24p Smooth Film", "Clear Cinema" and "16:9 overscan".

I'd also look to change the "3d refresh rate" and see what results that gives.

You could also try a demo of the latest Arcsoft Total Media Theatre instead of PowerDVD as it supports auto switching the HTPC output to the correct refresh rate for the content being played back.

Might also be worthwhile running something like Afterburner to monitor the GPU load. Task Manager for CPU load and see if it is maxing out.

I still think there might be some merit in checking the TV before lashing out on a new card, but as I say don't have the experience with 5450's to know if they'll do 3D, but they should definitely do standard 1080p BDs from what I've read elsewhere.

Hi Andarial, don't think you'll have much success with the onboard - can't see that being powerful enough for 3d, but might let you offload to the CPU which the 5450 seems to do. There's also a known issue with Intel onboard not syncing 23.976hz correctly, before Ivybridge, which causes stutters too :(

Anyway you can borrow a more recent/powerful card to test?

Right been having a play with those settings
Tried TMT,could not get it to even play a 3d file
Adjusted settings you suggested slight improvement with 1080P,not quite so juddery in 1080P/3d file playback still pants

Overclocked the gpu,improvement in 1080P playback :)
But no improvement in 3d file playback (tried 3 different files to be sure)
No chance of borrowing a better gpu unfortunately best I could get is my 4870,bit too power hungry for the htpc psu I think

The msi 7750 in the deal of the week is looking tastier by the day :D,even if it does me no good in the htpc it will be a welcome upgrade to my 4870 and the nephews will get the upgrade of a 4870 over what they have now

:(

Might be worth a punt over at avforums - maybe someone will have your TV and card?

It's a lot simpler on my TV just set the mode to Direct and it just displays whatever is sent by the HTPC. If I don't I get the same type of symptoms you're seeing. Can't seem to see that in the Panny options though - so maybe someone with more knowledge can help so you can get some certainty it's the card.

Sorry no help :(

Update
Got the msi HD 7750 from the deal of the week
Plugged the card in,same latest cats, default settings
1080P playing smoooooth now
3D SBS not as jerky,watchable
100% happy with the 1080P playback
90% happy with the 3D files, could be better but as of yet i have not tweaked anything
Just wanted to update all who suggested things to try and say thank you for your help and suggestions
I was surprised that the 7750 was not drawing as much power as I was expecting around 190W whereas my 5450 was drawing around 150W(Total system draw)
Also I was expecting a higher WEI from the 7750 only 7.5 same as my 4870
