Santa has delivered me an xbox 360 arcade. Excellent. But... I have the option of taking it back to game and for £30 exchanging it for a premium. Question is, will I use the hard drive? What are they needed for? Im not going to be downloading movies or demos. What do you think?

Also, what accessories should I get for my xbox? Ive two controllers... was thinking of the VGA cable, wireless headset and quick charge pack (oh and an extra battery). ANything else worth getting?

You need a HD mate for Demos & extra content & media downloads. Quick charge Yes but a wired headset will do as it plugs into your controller anyway.
I plan on buying a 2nd hand 20gb off someone who upgrades.

not gonna be getting demos. What kinda content and media is available? Not been on live yet. It wont affect me on live will it?

You'll get:
Hard-Drive (£70)
Wireless Controller (£30)
HD Component Cable (£20)

You'd be mad not to get the 'Pro', it offers a lot more than the Arcade.

Hmm ok. Really wanna play it today tho lol. The arcade comes with a wireless controller btw.

Ah okay, they never used to when they were called 'Core'. Personally I think you'd be mental not to, the HDD is a real plus for... well, everything. Plus there's a new movie service so you could download HD movies and watch them. The HDD is used for demo's, video's, game saves, profiles and music.

You say you don't want to use it for demo's, but there's a very good chance you will.

Yeah I guess thats a valid point. Movies I definitely wont though. Spose I might get some stuff off the arcade too. Damnit lol. Guess its staying in its box. Anyone know when game is open?

Then you'll have to do what i am going to do & wait till a 2nd hand HD comes up or buy a new one at a later date.
The 256 mem card is more than enough for save games & the controller is Perfect. The only thing you'll miss is the headset as you feel a bit left out without it online.
Enjoy, I Love mine to bits

i know it effects Crackdown for online Co-op as in you cannot play it with just a mem card as my boys at that time had just a memcard but when they got a Harddrive it worked, I don't know if any other co-op games are like that. For £30 i would upgrade it

Only problem the deal is gone from the website now. It was the premium, extra controller, forza and viva pinata for £230. Wonder if its still in store.

Football Manager 2006 and 2007 both require a HDD, but other than that those are the only 3 games I know of. Good call on Crackdown, didn't know that.

Starting from 2008 I anticipate more games that are HDD only for the 360 (Microsoft changed their rules for publishers allowing this, specifically for MOMO games, and maybe others).

Bit of a kick in the teeth for non HDD owners, but you have the oppurtunity to get one at a negligible cost, so I would take the offer. I wonder if the shop will let you swap the wireless controller in the pack for the play and charge? Play and Charge is essential really (imo).

Microsoft have been clever in calling it the Arcade though, as you only need a memory card for 'arcade' games, but you may need a HDD for Retail games. Would explain the name change.
