Just installed dirt 2 and had ago (had a free copy), I enjoyed it and I was suprised how well the game has been put together, hadn't played a racing sim since the original ridge racer on ps1. I sucked though!! ... But could this be because i was using the arror keys on my keyboard (lol?)?

do you play any other racing games/sims?

if dirt 2 is the only racing game you play then no, an xbox 360 controller will do :)

Yes it is.

Back in the ps1 days the stearing wheels they had out then were more of a hinderance compared to the good old controller (well, it was for me and my mates).

As I got the game free and seem to have developed a fondness for it I don't mind spending a little bit. Either way it looks like I'm going to have to spend some anyway as I don't have a wired xbox controller to hand.

I bought the logitech g25 for £120 delivered from ocuk and it's great. Bit expensive for the casual gamer though, but I've always wanted one, and I had the cash so I thought I may aswell.

Grid is also a good game, is more track based and made by the same company who made Dirt2, probably quite cheap now days

+1 it is fantastic!

g25 is discontinued unfortunately, had my eye on one of them :| the G27 is currently around ~£200, which is way to much.

Whatever the current Logitech Driving Force wheel is will be a pretty good price :D

Dirt 2 is surprisingly good for a Codemasters racing game, it is very well put together with excellent graphics. I have a G25 wheel which is one of the best, but I really wouldn't recommend it to someone who only plays theses types of games. An Xbox controller would be a better choice after all these titles are pure arcade games and don't do any justice to a good wheel like the G25.

RaceOn, GTR2, LFS , rFactor etc are some of the titles where owning a G25 makes sense.

In no way was ridge racer on ps1 a racing sim !!

Neither is Dirt 2 :p

As mentioned, the G25/27 are very good wheels, but overkill for these types of games, something like a Logitech DFGT will be good if you want a wheel, and considerably cheaper, but an xbox controller will be a chunk cheaper again and fine (if not preferred really) for the arcade style of games.

a wheel still adds a great amount of fun to arcade racers, I prefer burnout with a wheel and that's nowhere near a sim, ridge racer with a wheel could be pretty fun, holding those drifts and everything :D

Wheels are great for everything, especially when you can set the turn degrees, most arcade racers are excellent with about 270 deg steering :D

Some wheels dont work with dirt 2 so you need to check before buying a wheel.

I only really play arcade racers such as grid, shift, dirt and absoloutely love using the g25. It really does make it a lot more fun.

I would hate to go back to using a controller.

Also all my mates think its brilliant when they come round.

I m in the same boat mate, this one has my eye atm http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GC-023-LG&groupid=702&catid=288&subcat= better than everything else, you can tell its made by logitech.

I can't seem to find a G25 for less than £150 through :p and in stock and £200 for used is over the top, as you can get a G27 from here for 250

*edit the driving force Pro GT is the same as the drviing force I belive or more less the same

If I did go the stearing wheel route I would want a nice manual gear stick to go with it. What's the one like in the above link? Can't see much info.

I am getting the impression you get what you pay for.

the Gs are the only two steering wheels with both paddles and a proper 6 H gear shift

the Pro driving have like a gear shift but its not like a porper car gear box, more like a electronic type one, I also belive the pro GT one has paddle shifters as well. yeah you do, but £250 is wayy too much for a steering wheel and it don't have handbrake :p

£150 for G27 yeah, very few differences between G27 and G25 from what I can see

also logitech make the only onces with a proper steering lock

another differences is that the driving force Pro GT has a single feed back motor, while the GS have dual with some sort of gears machinism, I don't own one yet, but for £100 unless you find a second hand G25 thats the best of the best :(

not sure how much of a difference it makes tbh
