Hi dont no a great deal about Gpu need some advice
OK at moment i have a gtx 760 4GB windforce want to upgrade to a 1080 when they come out but i dont have a 4 k tv or monitor will i see much difference in 1080p gaming. I will be going 4 k but not for a while what is the difference between hdmi and display port.I have my pc upstairs with a monitor and and a hdmi under the floor boards to my Samsung smart tv downstairs is this worth a upgrade or not needed i play games like far cry ,GTA and soon doom

It's a really bad time to buy a new GPU because in 13 days the 10XX series from nvidia will be released. Prices across the industry for the existing portfolio of cards will reduce, that i am certain. For example, the MSRP of a 1070 is 379$ 'faster' than a 1000$ flagship. Therefore all current cards which cost > 379$ should reduce in line with the introduction of th 10xx price point.

The difference between displayport 4k 60hz and HDMI is 4k 30hz.

I think you need to evaluate WHY you want to upgrade?

Let's start with your current TV / monitor - is the max 1080p? if so a GTX 1080 is overkill and by the time you buy your 4k TV the price may have dropped. You will however have crazy amounts of FPS but by the sounds of things you will just have a lot of screen tearing if your monitor / TV's only support 60hz

A GTX 760 can play most titles at acceptable frame rates by tweaking the ingame settings.

What spec is the PC?

if you want to upgrade wait for mid/late june to see how the 1070 is, and how is polaris, before you make your choice, if you are asking about image quality betwen hdmi and displayport they are the same, different versions allow more or less bandwidth, which allow higher refresh rates, which is relevant only in 4k.
about the question of TV or monitor, if you are gaming it's better on a monitor you have higher refresh rate usualy 60/144hz on monitors, TVs usualy 30/60hz ( hz = frame per second ) so the higher the smoother is the animation, also monitors usualy have better ms (milliseconds) related the the pixel color going grey to grey, the lower the ms the less blurry the image is when moving fast, monitors usualy have 1-4ms, Tvs usualy have much higher ms.
keep in mind this depands of the monitor and the TV you have, and you need to check the specs of the ones you have, but most likely your monitor is better than your tv for gaming.

Think i wait till price drop and go with a upgrade but not the 1080 think be waste money for me may be 970

Really would not bother with a 1080 especially if you are going to keep your 1080p monitor for longer. 1070 would be a good shout, unless the 970 drops significantly in price when the 1070 comes out. Not the best plan to buy older hardware when potentially the 1070 could have better support for the latest api's and be prioritised for optimisation over older architectures. Problem is the 1070 comes out a few weeks later than the 1080, but that's still only about a month from now. If you do go 4k in the future I think the high end cards released after the 1080 with a bigger chip will be much better suited to 4k. They could be up to a year away.

Yes perform well just wondering if i need to be with the times with all this talk about the new GPU also the I5 4690k not been overclocked yet not up on this i no there is software but been told bios way is better
Thanks for all the advice

Nobody "needs to be with the times" it's really as simple as if you feel your GPU is struggling then you can upgrade. If you're having no performance problems in games then just wait it out until you're ready to upgrade to 4k.

Your getting sucked into the hype and marketing of these new cards.

If your getting acceptable performance then stick with what you have.

I only upgrade when I buy a new game and I'm not happy with the performance I get.

If your thinking about going with a new 4K monitor then you are better of waiting for the latest graphics cards to arrive and for prices to stabilise.

I would like to go 4K but the current crop of monitors are expensive and dont have all the features I want, so im saving some cash each month and will probably buy a new screen and GPU together once technology advances a bit further. At the moment 4k is cutting edge and therefore expensive, but its only going to get cheaper.

^Even overkill for 1080p. A 780ti is overkill for 1080, it's overkill for 1440 ultra at the titles I play.

No, there's no such thing as overkill when it comes to graphics technology.
The more grunt one has the better, games will be smoother for longer :).

A 780 Ti struggles in Farcry 3 at 1440p @ 60Hz.
A Titan X in Farcry 4 at 1440p plays nicely but I believe some things still need to be turned down@ 60Hz

At 1080p, I'd still want the fastest card I could afford or justify paying for one.

Ideally you want the minimum and average FPS to be as close together as possible? And also the max too

All IMO :D

Agreed. I am only rocking a GTX960 myself currently but it seems to run what I want fine, but interested to see what the new cards bring though.

Yes overclock the CPU via the bios. If you need a hand google haswell overclocking guide, there's a plethora of info on it.

GPU wise, it sounds like your current card can cope, so i'd reccomend holding of f upgrading until you NEED to rather than WANT to. Each to their own though.
