Do i need an amp?

Looking to buy These speakers to connect up to a 3.5mm socket (for use with an ipod or other source) but i'm not sure if I need one or not.

The system is going to be something like:

iPod - 3.5mm wall socket - Speaker cable - Speakers

Do i need an amp in the middle?

yes, you need a amp of some description, the speakers are passive.
