Do I need good quality memory for overclocking the cpu?

I see people getting expensive high quality memory for overclocking, but when overclocking the cpu is there going to be a need for me to increase the memory speed, when I can just use a divider? From what I've seen memory bandwidth seems to make no difference whatsoever in games and encoding so I'd rather just buy the cheapo DDR2 800 ram and not overclock it.

Depends on the mobo and cpu you have.

With say an E6300 with a P965 chipset based board such as the DS3, you need good RAM to get past 400FSB as youd need 430FSB ( 860 on the RAM ) to get 3Ghz as it runs 1:1 with the CPU

With the 650i chipset, such as the P5N-E SLI then pretty much any RAM will do as you can run it unlinked and clock the cpu without increasing the ram speed

With an 4300 and a DS3 you could get 3Ghz with 333FSB, so any PC5300 667Mhz will do the job
