Do i Need Routing Capability to do the following..

i have a pc, laptop and internet connection and want to share the internet between both the laptop and the pc and be able to share files between pc and laptop

do i need routing functions or will a normal AP do?

Thanks for Replies..

You can just use a crossover cable or create an adhoc network with the two (second option requires wireless)

And then share your ADSL modem or cable connection (might require a second LAN socket) if it's usb modem should go smooth, I used to do this.

I assume when you mention an AP that you're looking for wireless connectivity to the laptop?

The easiest way to do this is to get a wireless router, either with a built in ADSL modem or a cable one which your exisiting modem plugs into. That way you can access the internet on both machines without relying on one of them being on to share the connection.

thanks for the advice just wanted to check incase i bought the wrong one.. looking for a wireless router with built in switch for the pc (wired) and laptop(wireless)

Thanks again

As above, a router with wireless is the easiest thing to solve your problems and costs very little more than an acess point (sometimes less).

Any router with more than one ethernet port will contain a switch even if they dont state it clearly in the specifcation.

Using a wired connection to the router for both the laptop and the PC will be best for swapping big files and system backups otherwise wireless will be fine for everyday use.
