Do I need to do anything re. Static for my first build?

Have you watched any YouTube videos on building a pc?
PC Centric has some good videos and he seems to have built a lot. He mentions static in one if I remember correctly.
 
Just do it on a non carpeted surface and the overwhelmingly large chances are it'll be fine.

I’ve watched plenty of his videos and builds but never heard him mention static or take any preventative measures
 
I build mine while naked in the kitchen (wooden floor) also have a pan of water boiling to get the humidity up. Also discharge on the radiator beforehand
 
I've been in and out of my various pc builds over the years more times than a randy cowboy in a whorehouse. Never once taken 'precautions' apart from touching up the metal pc case before I start.

Semi seriously - just do it, I really wouldn't worry or over think it.
 
I must have a death wish - i have been working on my computer when i neeed to normally wearing a cotton gown on a carpeted surface :p.
 
My mate took a pic of himself building a pc on his carpet.. directly on it. the thing worked just fine .... I wouldnt do it myself but made me at ease about the whole risk. If you do not have all the fancy things just ground yourself to the PSU, as in touch the the bare prongs (when you dont have the kettle plug in it) and you should be good to go. do it a few times as you tinker on your pc
 
Then again other people have been updating and building computers at home for 40-50 years and not had any problems.
