Do I 'need' to get my protein from meat sources?

the 2 veggie women i have lived with had a few supplements for whatever reason, sure they both said it was to do with being veggie

Seems to be common, I got a bunch of veggie friends and they all take supplements for the same reason.

You don't have to take supplements, with a bit extra thought you can get pretty much everything you need in the way of vitamins and minerals as a vegetarian. Meat is a good source of a lot of vitamins, protein etc and as such is often an "easier" option but it's not the only way to do it.

I never used to take anything beyond very occasionally buying a tub of complete A-Z vitamins (you can argue they're pretty pointless as it is) until I moved down to London and training more regularly - I'm also fortunate enough to be pretty healthy, the worst thing I usually get is a cold. However even now most of the time I don't take any sort of supplements beyond flax seed and whey protein powder - those are only because it's more difficult to get sufficient quantities of protein or omega-3s as a vegetarian while training but even then it's not impossible. My reason for some supplementation is principally laziness with my diet to some degree, I may consider creatine in the future for the same reason.
