Do I need to go into hiding?

Who told you about the boyfriend? Did she or was it someone else? Unless I knew it first hand I'd take the ***** boyfriend trick with a pinch of salt. Heard this one a few times when someone gets close to a girl someone else likes or a girl fancies testing your man points.

I wouldn't be scared of this guy if he exists. If he had done anything properly bad he'd be permanently in prison. Have some innocent fun with the girl and see where it leads. No point pussy footing around becasue you'll just end up being her play bitch and wonder "what-if".
 
Just a minor update to this.

Was talking to her today. She's only been with this guy 2/3 weeks apparently, Didnt know he was a Gypo at first either. She's definately interested in me. She made sure I knew she'd not slept with him, and said she's thinking of dumping him. So i may be lucky, I don't think i'll jump straight in and start seeing her, I'll need to wait for things to look a little bit more natural. Rather than, Him out, Me in.

Also, My nets been playing up for a few days, I'm not dead/hiding :D

Wow she seems like a real catch! Somebody who's already going out with a gypsy but that's not even where it ends, she's flirting with other people too. I'd definitely be attracted to this girl, she seems like a keeper.
