I've got an Intel Quad core CPU, and in device manager, it says all 4 cores are 'Unknown Devices'.

Do i need to install drivers to identify these cores?
All i could find was this:
CLICK

Cheers

More likely you need to BIOS flash the motherboard to identify the processor model correctly.

You say you have an Intel Quad, does it state what model in the BIOS and Device Manager.

What board are you running?
When I upgraded to the Q6600 a few years ago from a dual core windows detected new hardware and a reboot all what was needed.

It's the Gigabyte ep35-ds4 MOBO.
I have already flashed it to the latest BIOS version.

I will check what it says again tomorrow, as the pc is at my gfs house and ive just got back :(

I had this problem in Vista, now I'm running Windows 7 and it has picked them up correctly.

Here's a screenshot:

Any ideas?

I wouldn't worry. I seriously doubt it's making any difference to performance. If you are that bothered then a re-install of windows may cure it, but TBH that's a bit drastic.

Have you tried clearing the CMOS and install the latest chip set driver’s.? Also look in Device Manager at top setting>Computer – it should READ>ACPIx64-based PC.

Are you sure it's not actually running at the overclocked speed? Windows always calls it a 'Q9550 @ 2.83ghz' no matter what the speed, windows just reports the CPU-ID string and not the actual clock speed it's running at.

Im not at home to check, but Vista computer manager, Right click My Computer properties, will show the stock speed and what the chip is then running at

Windows is able to tell what speed the CPU is running at, as it had to with the speedstep stuff

Don't think vista is too clever myself.
It's definitely running at 3.77ghz as stated in CPU-Z, but in 'System' is just says '@ 3.40ghz', its like as if Windows just wont recognise anything about 3.40ghz lol
