Installed mine last week, seemed to be the quickest and easiest SP i've ever done.

You shouldn't be asking do I need SP1, you should be asking why shouldn't I update to SP1?

There is a reason not too, 'cos the thing wont install ! I've tried every fix on the net I could find, downloading from win update and from the actual standalone, still no joy.
I think I'll live without as I don't have plans to re-install the OS

Installed on my desktop. GOt stuck at 30% while shutting down for 1 hour. Powered down manually BSOD on boot. Had to run start up repair from my pen drive.

My laptop however was no problem.
