Chaps, doing an upgrade from Amd3+ mobo and cpu to a Ryzen set up.
Do you really have to reinstall - please tell me there is away around this?

Thanks.

No it doesn't but I was just stating I had no issues, I did plan on doing a fresh install at a later date but haven't bothered as it doesn't seen necessary now

I did the same myself (going from AM3+ to AM4) - no format or reinstall of Windows. I did get slightly stun with Windows activation though, as did a couple of other people on here upgrading around the same time despite having MS linked accounts for Windows activation. Not much fun and slightly unnerving having your PC remote desktop hijacked for lengthy periods of time while they figure out how to validate your copy of Windows 10.

Must say the upgrade from a FX 8350 to a Ryzen 5 2600x is staggering,i play a lot of men of war assault squad 2 and the previous build was a bit swamped with several hundred units on screen.
Not now though, in fact i find myself scrolling off the screen i go so fast. But saying that the fx8350 was still holding good in Cod and the new colossus but i feel it was holding my 1060 back a bit.
It will now become a office PC so no waste.

I’d do a clean install.

It’s ridiculously easy these days, and I always like starting a new build with a fresh OS.

Clone the drive or backup first though, as others have suggested.

Agreed on the fresh OS part, I usually do this every 6 months or so or whenever it starts to bug me that something isn't running quite as it should.

I can be fresh installed with drivers and back to playing games in about 30 mins. Usually grabbing a bunch of choice stuff from the appdata directory will have my programs configured as they were previously too.

It’s one of the reasons my drives are separated.

I reinstall the system, point windows to my libraries and it’s done. All my saves, all my downloaded games. Everything in tact.

Makes backups easier too.

It's better to do a full reinstall, so that leftovers from previous system don't cause issues, though I've kept the same installation and changed systems and it worked fine for me, but it won't be the same for everyone.

Similar story although I point my directories to my NAS and just download games again (benefit of Virgin Media).
