Do I really have to reinstall windows 10?

Similar story although I point my directories to my NAS and just download games again (benefit of Virgin Media).

Yes, NAS is awesome. I plan on using one with read only access, with only my backup software allowed to write. Then differential backups will be made of each of my drives on schedules.

I need at least 6TB though which is still rather pricey, with a big holiday coming up I have to reign back. So as much I want the new shiney shiney, it’ll have to wait for a while.

What NAS are you using and how are you finding it?

If you maintain your system, a fresh install is really not needed at all.

If however you do not, and allow it to become bloated then it’s probably for the best. Win10 however is a real peach regarding this.

What makes Win 10 even better is that when you connect your MS account to the OS, it saves your key. Then all you have to do is log back into your MS account to activate and your key is applied.

There is no key. It actually saves your license. In fact, most times it will automatically reactivate even without using your Microsoft account.

I don’t use a Microsoft account to login. I’m one of those tin foil privacy warriors.

I have a key :)

Initially I created an offline account as I didn't want it online. However, when you link your MS account to activate, it changed the windows account type without asking you - so now I'm stuck with it.

it takes 10 minutes to do a reinstall these days on win 10.

Took me 6 mins on my new NVME :D I was pleasently surprised.

If you change certain hardware then it can become deactivated in which case it may only be reactivated it if you've linked it to your Microsoft account via the activation troubleshooter.

Thanks for this. Though 1, never had an issue. And 2, I’ll just get another copy.

if its same pc you reinstall its just put media in via whatever means you installing select i dont have a key next next done. depending on how fast your pc is and what installation drive you can have be back online in ten minutes or under.

I just purchased a Synology 918+ to upgrade from my very reliable 412+ and I'm loving it so far, the hardware transcoding for 4k files is great. When I realised the new 2019 model is basically identical to the older version just with an extra bay, I just grabbed one of last years models instead.

I managed to pick on up for a £300 on Amazon warehouse which was a steal, they pop up every now and again for dirt cheap on there, just gotta keep an eye out.
