Do I really need a new DMF?

Currently driving a Volvo V60 D3 and the clutch is slipping quite a bit now. It's only done 68k miles and I know it needs a new clutch but a couple of mechanics have also told me that I might as well get a new DMF whilst it's open.

Is this common practice to replace both even though the DMF sounds fine?

Yep. Most wear out with use, and could well be damaged from excess heat from the slipping clutch.

I would say 90% of clutches I do with DMF, the DMF is found to be at fault.

Done two cars without bothering with a new dmf. One a week later juddering and had to take the whole out the next I managed to px before it was undriveable.

The extra labour to replace the DMF will be minimal, plus the cost of the part. However, the cost of the part plus the labour to take the entire lot apart again will be orders of magnitude higher. Just replace it, consider doing the slave cylinder if it’s an internal one whilst you’re there.

Not the best idea - do this at your own risk, do some research.

They are fitted for a reason. Some engines it makes little to no difference, others don't like it at all.

I've seen multiple engines snap crankshafts, and a lot of gearboxes will rattle very loudly with a solid flywheel fitted.

Exactly really funny seeing people just getting rid of DMF as if they serve no purpose at all.

I replaced mine with a solid as it saved over £300. Only problem I've noticed is added vibrations. No others issues. Then again I use a thicker gear oil to reduce gearbox backlash.

DMF Price depends on the vehicle.. T5 180biTurbo for example, VW part only, no aftermarket and its £800 on maximum discount code!

That wont be the case at all, no such thing as a VW Clutch or DMF. I would bet its an LUK item or a Sachs, in which case you need to find the LUK/Sachs part number.

Edit:
I might be wrong but whats this, ive only had a very quick look.

My mother's 2009 A5 sportback has started juddering when pulling away, needing more revs than I would have anticipated on a 2L TDI - what sort of cost would this be?
