Do I really need to spend loads on a projector screen?

I see some screens for like £800 which is well over my budget!, then I see other screens the same spec for like £120.

I know they say you only get what you pay for, but this is a blank white surfice right?

My projector isnt to hot on blacks, so I am thinking a 92-105" grey screen 16.9 , tab tensioned would be awesome! but I know that feature adds lots more money!

I have about £300 max

Spend what you can afford, unless your an obsessive then you will certainly be impressed with the results. Better screens do make a difference but it's not the night and day a lot of people describe, just remember any screen is better than no screen!

You do get what you pay for with screens, especially if you want something out of the norm, but you can get decent white screens for not too much. Check out Beamax for decent quality that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Forget about tab tensioned if you want to spend under a grand!

I personally don't like grey screens as they darken the image and you lose some brightness. They can work well though - it depends on your priorities. I'd avoid something glass beaded like the Greywolf screen as you'll see a sheen and the screen texture. The Dalite High Power grey screen is nice, but I suspect it's a bit over budget. I'm sure Beamax have a high contrast option that would be worth checking out.

Well looking on that famous AM>>>> site I can see 100" grey electric screens 16.9 for around £100!.

Am not a huge fan of high brightness as I find it hurts my eyes, so grey might be the best way to go for me

It's pretty easy to do. One of my first screens was a black widow mix sprayed straight onto wood. Make sure the surface is prepped well - if it's a wall sand it down etc - and use a decent roller/paint spray. If you spray the mixture in light coatings you could probably get a result as good as a reasonably priced grey screen.
