Do I upgrade or do i wait?

Hi all

Have been out of sync with the pc landscape for a few years so I am unsure whether this is the right time to upgrade or should I wait until the new AMD cpus are out later this year.

Currently have:
Ryzen 3700x
3080

Corsair VENGEANCE LPX DDR4 RAM 32GB (2x16GB) 3600MHz CL18​

B450 TOMAHAWK MAX
500gb nvme

I was thinking of upgrading to:

Ryzen 38003xd
MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI
2tb nvme
And keep the 3080 until the 5000 series come out.

Is it sensible to upgrade now or should I wait?
I mainly play warzone but on a 34 ultra wide and I am seeing the game jerk a bit I think due to cpu?
Although I haven't played many of the latest titles I want a machine that can handle them.
I haven't been able to make up my mind if I want RT or not but I think dlss is a good feature to keep?

Tbh I'm confused so any guidance appreciated
 
I'd wait for the zen5 8000 chips to come out, should be later this year, and supposedly quite significant upgrade aswell. If you want to do a system upgrade.

However if not then the 5700x3d will certainly give your pc some legs for the next few years
 
@jimbos if you're not intending to keep the system long then is there any need to upgrade? Or could consider a used 5800x3d instead (if it is cheaper than buying a new 5700x3d)
 
I'm getting fustrated in warzone as it gets very spikey with frame drops and the cpu response time fluctuates from 5-20ms. So in my mind a £200 upgrade until the end if the year is worth it, as i can keep the pc for my son, and upgrade to the really new shiny stuff at the end of the year.

I could stick it out as I'm not a pro gamer but I feel 200 is decent value

if you're buying new...then yes
10% cheaper with 5% less performance

or just get a used 5800x3d instead...which would probably be my preference
(most of the components in my current main and secondary computer were bought used)
 
Not convinced a cpu upgrade will make that much difference at his gaming res

Below is a 3700x and a 5800x3d paired with a 3080. In some games yes, but in others the fps are pretty much the same. The other consideration is that you'll see the most performance gains at 1080p, as at this res, the cpu will be working hard to process all the frames...by the time you get to 4k, your fps might be 1/3 of 1080, and the the stress on the cpu is less, as it's now the gpu that's the bottleneck (why all cpu's are tested at 1080 with fastest gpu)
OP is using a 34" ultrawide, so guessing that's a 1440p one...that's 4.9m pixels...4k is 8.2m, 1440p is 3.6m and 1080p is just over 2m pixels...so you're pushing close to 250% of the pixels of 1080p, s we could be getting into the realms of gpu limitation



I think warzone is a game that likes 3dv cache, but worth watching the below...basically guy playing warzone with 3080 and 5800x3d...he does 1080/1440/4k at optimum settings and ultra settings, and see how his fps compares..at least then you'll get an idea of the fps uplift before you drop £200 that may just give you 10fps extra at your gaming res(if you do have a 1440p ultrawide, you'll just have to scale betweenthe 1440p and 4k frames
 
So are we saying:
1. Do nothing and upgrade when zen5 is out
2. Drop 200 for a 5800 and see an upgrade of some description
3. Say fk it and upgrade to am5 and 7800x3d and a 4090
