Ok I keep thinking it's time to upgrade my current setup.

But with all this talk of sandy bridge, and am unsure if it's worth waiting or not.

Basicly I currently have:

Q6600 (was clocked at 3.6 stable for 18months or so, but now playing up at stock 2.4)
Asus P5Q Pro
4gb Corsair Dominator 1066mhz
ATI HD5770
H50-1 cooler
HX850 psu
Obsidian 800D case

I am considering upgrading to:

Core I7 950 (looking to OC to around 4.2)
Asus Rampage Extreme III (like the idea of using my iphone to control the OC)
6gb Corsair Dominator DD3 1600mhz
H70 cooler
WD Sata III hard drive

and keep the current gfx card, psu and case.

Is it worth upgrading to the above now or am I better off waiting for the new sandy bridge stuff to arrive and upgrade in a few weeks time ???

It depends what you do. You'd be better off spending the money on a new graphics card if you're gaming on a decent monitor. If you aren't gaming on a decent monitor there's another thing to consider.

tbh I do very little gaming on the PC, most of my gaming is on PS3 and occasionally the XB360.

I mainly use the PC for surfing. email, downloading, watching films, listening to music and occasionally re-encoding video's.

But I do spend a lot of my spare time on the pc and like it to be fast and stable (it's usually left on 24/7).

As for monitor, i'm using a Samsung 2443 1920x1200 res.

I'd be tempted to wait for Sandy Bridge then myself. I think you'd kick yourself if you didn't seeing how close the launch is.

Mmmm....I'd wait 2 weeks to see what sandybridge has to offer then take it from there. Can't really go wrong with the system you specd though if sandybridge is guff ( but it won't be) so chill for 2

The only thing about waiting is between now and then the VAT goes up to 20% which makes things more expensive ontop of the fact the new kit always costs a fair amount more than the current (or soon to be old) kit costs.

Then the other concern is, will the launch motherboards be anything like the Rampage Extreme III or are they going to be quiet basic to start with.

Also heard the SB processors are not going to be "that" good at OC to start with ???

Fair point....I don't think the first wave of s/b mobos will have functions like rampage 3....I do think like i7 920 was they will be reasonably priced for new tech...I'd wait just to see you'll kick yourself if you don't!
