I dropped my iPhone 5 in a lake last night (courtesy of a fellow OCUK'er :D)

Unfortunately I doubt my insurance will cover it as accidental damage however I am out of contract and the O2 Refresh plan - for once - makes getting a smartphone on contract the same price in the long run as buying it outright.

Really like the look of the S4 but I'm worried I will miss my iPhone. Is there anyway I can still sync various stuff with my iMac such as calendar/contacts. Is there anyway of getting it to sync with iTunes (I use Spotify now but still have a lot of playlists)

Many thanks

Pay £180 for a replacement at your Apple store?

Will they let me do that?

My iPhone 5 was actually my dad's contract phone (from December last year) although he couldn't live with the lightning connector so traded it for my 4S. Can I still just take it to an Apple store and replace it?

The iPhone 5 seems fairly dated in many ways compared with the S4. I'd either upgrade now or wait for the launch of the next iPhone.

Yes. Last time I was there people were paying for the same thing (water damage)

Just got off the phone with them. Water damage is covered and she has approved the claim.

All I need to do now is take it to Apple who will repair or replace it. Comes out of my pocket and then the insurance company pay me back less the excess.

Booked an appointment for tomorrow.

I agree S4 screen is a bit too big, but then it depends on what you want a phone for I guess. I remember the Galaxy S2 and thinking that was far too big, but actually feels quite small. You would get accustomed to a larger screen is what I am saying I guess.

No issues, they replaced it for £170.

I'm pretty staggered to be honest. I literally said to the guy 'It fell in a lake and got submerged in water' and expected them to say something like 'It's your fault so tough luck, £599 please.'

Even if the insurance refuse to pay out for whatever reason that isn't the end of the world. Just a costly lesson learnt.

Maybe if you have girl trousers.

I think I'm going to agree with you here. I don't get this obsession with everything getting smaller and slimmer. In the Apple store today the Macbook Air - it's a nice bit of kit - but it's so bloody small it feels far too feminine. Even the 15inch MBP Retina doesn't make me feel macho :D

I'd definitely go for a bigger iPhone if available.

Having said that I do love the iPhone. It does everything I want and it just works. The Samsung has some awesome technical gimmickry on it but that's just what it is, gimmickry. Maybe if I had an S3 I could upload videos of me squatting in the form thread in Sports Arena in ultra 100fps slow motion :D The stuff on the iPhone which seems like gimmickry always seems to actually get used. I thought the Panorama thing was a load of nonsense but travelling in India I took some stunning photos using it :)
