Do mechanics not know how to use a phone?

Mate dropped his civic off last week 8am for new shocks and an alignment.

Getting close to closing time so he called them, "just coming off the ramp now".

Pick car up, alignment printout on passenger seat... 10:40am

Dropped themselves in it there lol

I have never, ever, ever had a garage ring me to tell me the MOT is done, despite that being the arrangement they committed to on each occasion.

Last MOT on the Manta I checked online, saw it had passed, but they didn't ring me all day - at 4:50pm I caved in and rang them, and got the usual "Oh yeah it passed, come and pick it up"

I email my usual place to get quotes and book in work and as long as it's ready to pick up by 5.10pm I couldn't care less so they don't bother phoning me.

My best mate from school runs a garage with his old man, never (well hardly ever) calls me when anything is done or if does its at the end of the day.

Having said that the dealer always call me on time.

Dealer always costs loads more and recommends stuff needs doing - got to pay for that gold std service I guess!

I can use a phone and email as good as anyone else. Its not my job to ring a customer to tell them there vehicle is ready. Thats the job of the service advisor/receptionist.

Yup, every time.

Also annoys me when I take my bike in for tyres... "we're really busy today mate, it'll be a few hours". So I go home, go back in a couple of hours, ask if it's done & they then do it while I watch...

So your MoT is booked in for a timeslot usually... is everyone so busy that they can't wait around for 45-60 minutes while it's being done, or are all your cars so knackered and neglected that they need lots of fixing in order to pass?

Again, I thought most ride-in tyre places would book you a time slot...

I imagine most people have jobs.

Not this place. I don't ride in either. Not having some monkey mess with taking my rear wheel off my bike :D

My garage is pretty decent. Small local one, tucked away down an alley, that asks you to drop off the car in the morning and they'll get on with it as soon as they can. Once the job is done, they'll call and if they can't reach me, they'll leave a detailed voicemail with what was done, cost associated etc and that it's ready to be picked up.

Can't complain!

same here with a local garage other than the fact that the owner loves quoting stupid prices like 2-3x the norm so I used them once and never again.
