Do NOT login to any Steam websites! Caching Issues

:(.

Lucky for me I guess that I don't store anything. No billing info saved, no phone number, no paypal.

So if mine came up in the random caching, I guess it would just be account name + email. Email is just for steam and psn, important accounts are on another email.

When did they shut it down? I tried to log in about 9pm, couldnt so came here and then saw the comments about not going online (had already tried once by that point). Not sure if it was already shut down at that point?

So in layman's terms what is happening is that basically someone else's profile can show up in your Steam when you're browsing (and vice versa) so you can have a look around their account and games library? However, this isn't a case of one individual or group being able to access leaked data of a large numbers of users?

Same, and also luckily for me, i changed my Steam account email address a few months ago now, to a one that isn't used for anything else.

To think people laughed at me when I said I only top up my Steam wallet via pre-paid cards rather than using my debit/credit cards.

Why exactly? If it was just a caching issue you *shouldn't* have been able to buy anything from the details shown. With the way the credit/debit card details are shown (last 2/4 digits) you won't get the full PAN.

The rest of the information is more worrying, it makes you wonder how many accounts had details leaked and if Valve will notify them.

From what I understand the information bleed is of a random nature and not particularly easy for anyone to harvest data from unless they were anticipating the problem and setup to exploit it - even then it wouldn't give them anything immediately useable but might present them with potential targets for later brute force or phishing type attacks.

FULLY sorted? And proof? Got some gift cards I wouldn't mind spending.. Not opening steam etc till i know for sure. Seen a lot on Reddit and Twitter but nothing from an official source that I know of.

PM me the gift card redemption codes and I'll let you know if they work or not :D

I had to restart Steam but all seems good now. Checked my account details, all fine! Definitely damaged my trust in Steam though, used to be very rock solid.
