Do NOT login to any Steam websites! Caching Issues

To think people laughed at me when I said I only top up my Steam wallet via pre-paid cards rather than using my debit/credit cards.

Steam doesn't ever show more than the first and last 4 digits of your card data after you enter it*, and the caching issue wouldn't have let you do anything as it was the displayed page that was wrong, not the user session (IE you could see something but not make any changes).

*I can't remember if it even shows the first 4, but either way they're useless to anyone as IIRC the first 4 are the card type/issuer ID and the last 4 are the checksums (it would be like getting the first 3 and last 3 digits of someone's telephone number in the international format, it might tell you the country and last 3 digits but is useless for calling them or even working out where in the country they are).

As a techie, I cringed when I heard about this. Worst day for it to happen.

Aye, It's the sort of day when you're least likely to have many (or any?) CS staff, tech staff are going to be at a bare minimum and the bosses/people that can make decisions as to what to do are all at home with their family on the biggest (general) family day of the year.

I would imagine that before any calls were made the on duty guys wanted to be really sure it wasn't some jokers reporting a made up issue for a laugh and see it with their own eyes (I can imagine the on duty techs calling up off duty ones to see if they could see it with their home connections before calling the bosses).

That'll explain why I'm not receiving emails from Steam guard. One quick reinstall and I went to login to Steam to be greeted with a verification message and that they'd send an email. 24 hours later and I still cant get in or receive any emails from them.

dont know if this is related but i received 5 reset password emails from steam today. all from the same ip.

My Steam is working fine, though i'm unable to log in via web browser, just keep getting "incorrect login" even after resetting my password.

Watched the video and I thought the quote from TB (in turn from a reddit user) mentioning that it's unacceptable for a billion dollar business to run itself like a lemonade stall was very apt.

I'm betting that if you use your card anywhere then it's at risk. This is a bit of a balls up by valve, but lets be honest if a tech company like valve can balls it up imagine what places like Argos, Tesco... are capable of.

do you also burn all your receipts fro mshops? because they carry the exact same last 4 didgets on them for your card....

I'm just glad I had the Steam Mobile Authenticator enabled for my Steam user account. Obviously I don't advertise my Steam username but if anyone saw it from the caching issues it'll be a bit harder to hack.

I only had my PayPal account linked to my Steam account and I had 2 factor authentication enabled for that as well as the two email addresses used for both services. Although I can't be sure I think I'm as safe as I can possibly make myself.
