Ive only been able to download at 250kb's for over a week now and ive just logged into their site and its says - You are currently subscribed to the Broadband Size: M.

So why am i on their 2mb service when im paying for their 4mb? It used to be 400-500kb's.

Do they reduce your speed if you download over a certain amount? If so does anyone know their figures? And when ill be back on the L package (4mb)

If indeed you are downloading at 2mb speed here when you are 4mb, just phone them up and complain. Never heard of them moving people down a package - i highly doubt they would drop people down a package and still charge you 4mb price.

250kb's

Thats the 2mb? I haven't even been with NTL a month yet. When they installed it i was downloading fine at 500kb's. Ive been lagging out wow a lot latley and getting 4k pings lol

So thought id check it out and now found im down a package?

4k lol? Bit crazy. Those speeds to coincide with being on a 2mb package. I would just phone them up and moan until you get someone who fixes the problem straight away.

I had a problem with blueyonder a while back where i was getting 150ms ping whilst playing CSS - this continued for about 5-6 months until i sent a letter to some high level person down south and the problem was fixed within days plus i got about £150 refunded.

So the story isn't much relevance here, just to say, phone NTL and see if the support tech can fix it then and there, if not, get to the highest level person you can on the phone to fix the problem and tell them how angry you are :p Might even get a 1 month free if your lucky as well as getting back up to 4mb!

If it's anything like my experiences with support it will usually start by them blaming your router, then wanting you to use a NTL web proxy server, then asking about any software firewall being used and/or viruses.

NTL does traffic shaping now just in case it's that that's causing the problem. It's discussed a lot in the CableForum.co.uk site forums.

They said sorry to me a lot, credited my account and upgraded me.

Still says 2mb on their site but they did say their systems going a bit slow so may take 10mins or so till im back onto 4mb :)

Ah well, result. :)

Go into your modem (It's some IP, can't remember what it is now :\) and check that you're actually connecting at 2mb rather than 4. Remember it's *up to*, if there's heavy traffic on your road or something it might not run at full speed.

A friend of mine with NTL was being charged for 2Mb but only getting 1Mb. It only came to light when I said his connection seemed slow to mine so I did a speed test.

Virgin site now says im on package L.

Still downloading at 2mb speed and ive just been d/c at least 20 times on wow tonight and i had a record of 16k latency :)

N1 Virgin Media aint even been with NTL/VM a month yet and there really screwing me around.

I hope this lag is due to upgrades/maintanence :(

Vent goes off/wow goes off and the lights on my modem freeze so i guess this is NTL and not me?

have you tried 192.168.100.1 user:root password:root Click on operation config. You should see what speed your modem is set to.
